Maryland Senna [Senna marilandica]
HEIGHT: 4' - 6'
BLOOM TIME: Jul- Aug
SOIL MOISTURE: medium to wet
SUN EXPOSURE: full, partial
NOTES: Herbaceous perennial. Leguminous nitrogen-fixer. Showy yellow flowers and attractive oblong-elliptical leaves make this a great addition in the back of a formal native planting. In the wild, Maryland Senna is found along riverbanks, roadsides, and meadows. Prefers rich, loamy soil but does well in rocky soils. Can be used as a hedge. The seed is loved by quail and wild turkeys. Unlike its nearly identical twin Wild Senna, seedpods remain closed until winter.
